Every person is of worth to this world and to the lives of those around them simply because they exist. The word “Namasté” is an Eastern greeting which literally means, “I salute the divine within you.” I can think of no greater honor to receive or to give than to greet someone or be greeted with Namasté. If we can look at everyone we meet through the eyes of someone who believes that every human being is divine in nature, then we will be able to look past shabby clothing or sharp voices and see the good in each person. When this Hindi greeting of Namesté is given, the hands are clasped in front of the heart and the head is slightly bowed. The gesture is symbolic of reverence and respect for the person being greeted. What a different world it might be and can be if we can come to view everyone we meet as divine.
