73 YEAR OLD RECIPIENT OF EXPRESSIONS OF GRATITUDE AWARD ANNOUNCED

At Waves of Gratitude, we accepted nominations from December 16, 2009 to January 15, 2010 for the Expressions of Gratitude Award designed to recognize individuals that express gratitude in their lives with extraordinary personal style. We are still accepting nominations for the second Expressions of Gratitude Award through April 30 and are pleased to announce winner Pat Wharton of Edmond, Oklahoma. Pat, age 73, was nominated for the Expressions of Gratitude award by her granddaughter Brandi Brown, also of Oklahoma. Congratulations Pat and Brandi.

Pat Wharton, Expressions of Gratitude Award Winner

Waves of Gratitude founders Cheryl Nordyke and Kim Wierman deliberated between many deserving nominations to the Expressions of Gratitude Award and selected the winner, Pat Wharton, for maintaining an unwavering focus on gratitude through many losses: her home at age 6, her older brother at age 10 and her father at age 30. Brandi wrote of her grandmother Pat,

“She is the truest definition of gratitude with grace.
It is from her that I have learned what it truly means to
be grateful everyday for even the simplest of life's blessings”.

Pat, the Expressions of Gratitude award winner, received a stylish solid sterling silver Branches of Hope Pendant with a Swarovski clear quartz crystal on Genuine Black Leather, a necklace to honor her lifelong commitment to expressing gratitude. Inspired by the strength and magnificence of the Cyprus tree, the Branches of Hope pendant by renowned jewelry designer Jessica Fields is the signature piece in the collection of Inspired Jewelry by Waves of Gratitude. The jewelry is designed to give people the opportunity to wear symbols of gratitude that are both beautiful and meaningful.

We’d like to thank participating individuals who nominated someone special for expressing their gratitude with extraordinary personal style and invite everyone to visit our Inspired Thoughts blog to join Waves of Gratitude founders on their journey of 365 days of uninterrupted blogging in 2010 to share everyday joys, challenges, struggles, and triumphs while striving to find gratitude and inspiration through it all.

Don't forget to nominate someone special for the second Expressions of Gratitude Award before April 30, 2010.

Why Get In Touch?

The Get in Touch Foundation was established by Mary Ann Wasil Nilan in 2004 to encourage women of all ages to “Get In Touch” with their bodies as part of an ongoing crusade to educate them about the importance of early breast cancer detection. Mary Ann met Waves of Gratitude co-founder Kim Wierman at the Make Mine a Million Conference.

“At the conference we were learning about how women’s attitudes about money and their earning power were affected by the women in their lives,” Kim recalls.  “I stood up and told a story about my grandmother wrapping her spending money in aluminum foil and putting it the freezer and then telling my grandfather it was cheese she was putting in her purse in case she got hungry while she was out.  Mary Ann approached me at a break to tell me how the story really made her laugh, but it was her incredible story of survival, hope and faith during her battle with breast cancer that touched us and prompted us to follow her progress and reach out to her almost a year later.” Their immediate connection back in 2008 resulted in an amazing partnership now.

In an effort to share their gratitude for early breast cancer detection and prevention, Waves of Gratitude will donate $3 from every purchase of a signature Large Branches of Hope necklace to the Get In Touch Foundation through February 28, 2010. Individuals who want to purchase the necklace can visit the Waves of Gratitude website to learn more and get a coupon code to receive 15% off any Large Branches of Hope necklace. Pictured below is the Large Branches of Hope necklace with Rose Quartz Swarovski Crystal. also available with Clear Quartz, Aquamarine, Ruby and Amethyst Swarovski Crystals.

The Get In Touch Girls' Program & Daisy Wheel© teaches girls in grades 5-12 the importance of, and how to do a breast self-exam for life with the proprietary and effective 8-step Daisy Wheel through lectures in open community settings that facilitate comfort and discussion.

Mary Ann Wasil Nilan (pictured above) says, “The Get In Touch Foundation® is delighted to have been chosen by Waves of Gratitude to be a recipient of their philanthropic commitment to making a difference in our world! Each dollar that Waves of Gratitude donates to Get In Touch means one more Daisy Wheel© makes it into the hands of one more girl. Kudos to Waves of Gratitude for joining us in our mission to “change the world one girl at a time!”  Hope Lives!”

“With each Large Branches of Hope necklace purchase, you are affecting the lives of three girls” says Cheryl Nordyke, Waves of Gratitude CEO.” Kim Wierman adds, “We are so excited to give back to The Get in Touch Foundation. I am grateful for Mary Ann’s strength and inspiration, and I know she is going to affect so many people."

Inspired Giving: A Guy's Perspective

Mike T. wrote in from Chicago about finding the perfect gift for his girlfriend…

"My girlfriend thought I took her for granted. At first, I didn't even know what that meant. Then I thought about it. She cooks me delicious meals. She knows exactly what to say to me when I have a bad day. She even does my laundry sometimes! As you can imagine, after I gave it some thought, I wanted to get her something REALLY special. When I heard about how Waves of Gratitude jewelry reminds people about the importance of expressing gratitude, I KNEW it was perfect. I gave her the yoga wave bracelet, and  told her that it should remind her how grateful I am to have her in my life. Needless to say she loved it! And next time I can get her something else from your collection and she’ll love that too. Thanks!"
